Theory Tuesdays

Theory Tuesdays was a nonacademic platform for theoretical discussion founded, organized and coordinated by artist Philip Matesic from 2009 until 2022. Participants read beforehand then discussed contemporary art, design, literary, cultural and critical theory, with each session free and open to the public. The nearly weekly circulation of varying topics made it possible to just drop in and discuss.

"‹Each One, Teach One› is the core philosophy of Theory Tuesdays, where each week a different person presents a text and leads discussion, leveling the hierarchy between those who know and don’t know, in a non-academic setting. Those in attendance also end up running sessions, with each one teaching the other and back again."

"Outside Sundays is an ongoing series of afternoon getaways extending the concepts behind "Theory Tuesdays" and "Practical Fridays". On any given Sunday, an invited person chooses a destination to visit together. The destination is not published beforehand and is reachable by foot and/or public transportation. A typical getaway takes between 2-4 hours."

"Practical Fridays was a workshop series, founded and coordinated by artist Philip Matesic from 2013 until 2019. The series expanded practically on Theory Tuesdays, a nonacademic platform for theoretical discussion. Instead of discussing a theoretical text, participants had a hands-on, collective experience of learning something practical from a non-professional. Each workshop was run by a different person at various locations in Zurich, Switzerland."
